Over 150 Roundtable members and guests attended the Oklahoma Business Roundtable’s annual meeting at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa on June 12. Guest speakers were Governor Kevin Stitt and Commerce Secretary Sean Kouplen. Both leaders were interviewed by Chairman Bill Anoatubby in a unique “conversation” format that also included Q&A from the membership. The leaders discussed successful legislative initiatives and ongoing efforts to streamline and improve state government services. Economic development highlights included $19 million in funding for the state’s closing fund (for major projects)and focused programs to support aerospace, automotive and entrepreneurial/small business growth. The new state budget also includes significant investments in classroom funding, teacher pay raises, and criminal justice reforms.
The Roundtable Board of Directors approved the annual budget which is targeted to support economic development efforts of the Governor, Lt. Governor and Commerce Department. Special grants were approved for 13 statewide projects which are targeted to business expansion and recruitment, workforce development, STEM and economic development education projects. Roundtable membership remained strong with 155 members as of June 30, 2019.
