ONE Gas CEO Pierce Norton addressed over 100 members and guests at the annual meeting of the Oklahoma Business Roundtable on June 13, 2018 in Tulsa.
Mr. Norton, past Chairman of the American Gas Association, gave a very informative update on the state of the nation’s energy situation and the role of today’s natural gas industry.
Norton said natural gas prices were stable and at a 40 year low which can continue to be a valuable tool for Oklahoma as it grows and attracts business and talent. Advanced drilling technology and distribution systems have better positioned the United States in the world energy market. He said winning the energy race requires a balance in four areas: reliability, lower cost, versatility and cleaner supplies.
He voiced concern that while the U.S. has reduced greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions (U.S. is 15% of global), main emitters are China (30%) and India (7% and growing). Also, there continues to be a lack of understanding of the industry by our next generation of energy decision makers.
The Roundtable elected the 2018-2019 officers and board.
